Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hiroshi Gomi (ranked 1537 p4p, 3082 weight class) and Jake Askren (ranked 113 p4p, 203 weight class). Gomi comes to the cage accompanied by The Only Thing They Fear is You- DOOM Eternal OST. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hiroshi Gomi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 17 - 24 - 1, fighting out of London, Jake Askren! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Richard Clark and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice jab there from Askren. Askren gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Gomi counters with a straight right hand. Askren slips a jab from Gomi. Askren swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Good shot there by Gomi. Askren changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gomi tries to avoid it but Askren manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gomi to the ground. Gomi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Askren misses with a takedown attempt - Gomi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Hiroshi Gomi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Askren. Askren shoots in and bounces Gomi off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Askren won't allow Gomi to get back to his feet. Askren controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Gomi wants to stand but Askren is controlling the position. Askren not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Askren prevents Gomi from getting back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gomi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Askren controls the pace.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Askren shoots for a double leg takedown but Gomi sprawls well. He's pushed Askren's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Nice jab there from Gomi. Gomi misses the jab. Despite the aggression on Askren's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Askren throws a combination that misses letting Gomi counter with a right hand. Gomi throws a series of punches but Askren avoids them all with ease. Askren tries for a takedown but Gomi circles away easily letting Gomi counter with a right hand. Jake Askren seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A slow jab from Gomi misses its intended target. Askren misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Excellent takedown into side control there by Askren.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Askren trying to control the action but Gomi is working from the bottom. Gomi prevents Askren from moving into mount. Askren advances to full mount. Gomi wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Gomi tries to buck Askren off but Askren takes his back! Askren biding his time, looking for the opening.
Askren working for the choke. Askren has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Gomi's body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gomi trying to get back to his feet but Askren is in full control for now. I would not like to be Gomi right now.
Gomi is trying to get back to his feet but Askren has full control of the position and if anything, Gomi has just worked his way into a worse spot. Askren is working for a rear naked choke. Gomi is not defending it well and Askren has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Gomi refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Gomi's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jake Askren! Jake Askren decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
