PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joao Cajo Branca (ranked 5008 p4p, 4753 weight class) and Gyukosho Fujimoto (ranked 545 p4p, 526 weight class). Branca comes into the arena with original score medley blaring out of the sound system. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 32 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joao Cajo Branca! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 45 - 36 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gyukosho Fujimoto! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Chad Campbell and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Branca misses with a hook to the body
and Fujimoto cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
It looks like Joao Cajo Branca has been cut. Branca pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Fujimoto follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land. Some wild striking there from Branca.
Branca lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Branca wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fujimoto swings and misses with a shot to the body enabling Branca to counter with a crisp jab. Branca scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Fujimoto falls off balance throwing a combination
and Branca counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Fujimoto thinking.
That's one minute gone in the round. Branca lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Fujimoto throws a head kick but Branca moves out of range.
Branca swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Fujimoto chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Branca can pounce on him.
Branca scores with a jab to the body. Fujimoto looks winded! Fujimoto needs to keep his hands up - Branca had a free shot at his head there. Branca feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Fujimoto sprawling to the canvas! Fujimoto rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Branca finish him?!
Fujimoto is rocked! Joao Cajo Branca seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Branca with a body punch. A glancing blow. Branca lands a nice looking kick to the body. Fujimoto takes a step back to recover.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Branca cracks Fujimoto with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Fujimoto looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Branca finish him?
Fujimoto is still on wobbly legs! Can Branca finish him? Fujimoto is holding his hands too far apart here. Branca throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! Fujimoto is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Joao Cajo Branca! After the fight, Joao Cajo Branca was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
