This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 3 losses; Jisoo Oh! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 13 wins and 22 losses; Stoned Nelson! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Sam Margolis and Paul Tew.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Oh gets a clinch. Nelson changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Oh fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Oh is looking to clinch but Nelson is avoiding it.
Nelson fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Nelson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Oh sprawls well initially but Nelson persists and gets the takedown into half guard. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Hammer House of Horror that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. Nelson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Oh doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Nelson. Nelson is trying to control. Oh wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nelson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Oh haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Nelson is controlling the pace.
That's one minute gone in the round. Let's hope that Nelson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. That's two minutes gone in the round. Nelson goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Oh rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Nelson's guard! Nice work there by Oh! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Oh (2) vs (5) Nelson Nelson keeping full guard, as Oh tries to pass. Nelson told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Nelson controls Oh momentarily but Oh frees himself. Nelson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Oh gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Oh won't allow Nelson to sweep him here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nelson is pulling down on Oh's head to control his posture. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Oh preventing the sweep.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nelson being controlled here, momentarily. Nelson is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Nelson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Oh manages to get himself to full guard.

That's five minutes gone in the round. Nelson wants to pass the guard but Oh is keeping the position. Nelson trying to control but Oh is working from the bottom. Nelson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Oh is keeping the position for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Nelson wants to control the position but Oh says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Nelson trying to hold on to Oh's head to control him but Oh postures up.

That's seven minutes gone in the round. Nelson is pressing down on Oh's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Oh got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nelson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Oh has managed to get both his arms back between Nelson's legs - danger averted. Nelson wants to sweep here but Oh controlling him for the moment. Nelson has Oh pulled in close to control his posture.

Nelson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Nelson is holding on to half guard well. Nelson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Oh is working away from the top position though. Nelson is holding on to half guard well. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Oh in particular looking to stall.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Nelson keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Nelson wants to control but Oh is keeping busy.
Oh seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Nelson tries to roll over but Oh keeps him under control.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Nelson works his way to full guard. Good work. Oh trying to control the position from guard on top but Nelson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Nelson pulls Oh in to control the position. Nelson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Oh is one step ahead there. Nelson has control of Oh's left arm, preventing Oh from doing any damage.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nelson is on top in guard.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Oh wants to sweep here but Nelson controlling him for the moment. Nelson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Nelson being controlled here momentarily.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Nelson trying to control but Oh is working from the bottom. Oh being controlled here, momentarily. Nelson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Oh swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Nelson wins on points by 9 to 4. A very excited looking Stoned Nelson made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction. |
