Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Valentino Valente!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Leroy Woods!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Ben Hemmingworth and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woods cracks Valente with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Woods works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Woods changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Woods just misses with a punch to the body.
Woods is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Valente.
Woods thuds a left hand into Valente's body.
Woods throws a jab when Valente was well out of range.
Woods slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Woods throws a predictable looking body shot
and Valente counters with a straight right hand.
A left lands for Woods.
Woods stuns Valente with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Valente looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Valente digs a right hand underneath Woods's ribcage. Woods let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Valente has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Woods after a bit of a struggle.
Woods has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Woods looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Woods gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Valente.

Valente is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Woods is defending well.

Valente drags the fight down to the ground.
Valente manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Woods manages to get himself to full guard.


Woods working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Valente doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Valente manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Valente's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Valente takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Woods really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Valente. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Valente lands an elbow.

Valente wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Woods, who protects the arm well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Check out the look on Valente's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Valente misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Valente controls the position.
Woods takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Woods parries the strikes from Valente easily there. Valente is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Woods to escape.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Valente seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Woods swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Valente.

As Woods tries to get set, Valente tries to push him back and clinch up but Woods manages to avoid the attempt.

Leroy Woods is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The fighters circling - Woods throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

A little feinted left hand from Valente on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Valente has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Woods uses from the top position.

Valente has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Woods can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Valente on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Valente tries to get out of the position.
Valente bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Woods's guard.

Valente drops back looking for a leg! Woods is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Woods manages to kick Valente off! Valente jumps back into Woods's guard.

Woods is trying to maintain the position but Valente is very close to passing his half guard.
Well, if Valente is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Valente stops Woods from getting back to his feet.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Woods throws a looping overhand right but Valente ducks down to avoid it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Valente counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Valente.

Valente pulls Woods into guard.

Valente looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Woods must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Woods stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Valente swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Valente manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Woods manages to get himself to full guard.

Valente connects with a couple of short punches.
Valente makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Valente stays in close to Woods's body and controls the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Valente accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Valente drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Woods dives on top into guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Valente is on top in guard.

Valente sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Woods's guard.

Valente is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Valente works his way into side control.
Valentino Valente has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Valente in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Valente has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Woods trying to remain calm as Valente controls from the top position.

Valentino Valente overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Woods is trying to get back to half guard.

Valente content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Valente is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Woods is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Valente throws a strike aimed at the side of Woods's head but Woods avoids it well.

Valente is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Woods has escaped the position, nice work there.

Valente is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Woods knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
