This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 2 losses; Barkeep Quark! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 3 losses; Rat Man! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Man fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Quark to the ground. Man is now in Quark's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Quark (0) vs (2) Man Quark has his hands on Man's head, controlling the position. Man is pushing down on Quark's leg trying to pass to half guard. Quark is fighting to maintain full guard but Man has managed to sneak the leg through. Man is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Quark doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Man. Man seems to be working for a kimura but Quark defends the submission attempt. Man looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Quark is concentrating on defense, preventing Man from advancing position. Quark wants to improve his position but Man is controlling well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Quark is staying active underneath Man, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Man wants to pass the guard but Quark is defending well. Man looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Man frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Score +3 for passing guard: Quark (0) vs (5) Man Quark just holding on. Man looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Quark is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Man has taken his back.
Score +3 for taking back: Quark (0) vs (8) Man You can see the frustration on Quark's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Man is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Quark is defending well though. Man let's go of the attempt for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. You can see the frustration on Quark's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Man is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Quark with him. Quark is trying to defend but Man has an arm under the chin now! Quark grimaces and is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Rat Man! After the fight, Rat Man was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly. |
