PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jyrki Kapane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pate Rakko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jyrki Kapane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pate Rakko!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rakko shoots in looking for a takedown. Kapane tries to sprawl out of it but Rakko keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kapane manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Left hook, right uppercut from Kapane.


It looks like Pate Rakko has been cut.
Rakko shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kapane as he jumps to the side.
Kapane defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Rakko.
Jyrki Kapane has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pate Rakko.
Rakko shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kapane sprawls well. Kapane wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rakko gets slowly back to his feet.
Pate Rakko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rakko misses with a takedown attempt - Kapane sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Rakko looks gassed!

Kapane changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rakko looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Kapane is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rakko is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Rakko is looking to reverse the position.

Rakko can't do much from the bottom here.

Rakko tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kapane wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kapane tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kapane has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Rakko is trying to improve his position.
Rakko is trying to control Kapane's posture but Kapane avoids it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rakko shoots and misses

and Kapane counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Kapane has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rakko is proving hard to escape from.

Rakko escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kapane gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Rakko has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kapane is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Rakko.
Kapane lands a nice forearm strike.
Rakko tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kapane gets to mount! Rakko was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Rakko tries to control Kapane's body but Kapane pushes him off. Rakko squirms to his side and now Kapane has his back!

I really don't envy Rakko right now.
Rakko just trying to survive but Kapane is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Kapane has the hooks in. Rakko is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Rakko tries to escape but Kapane has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kapane not allowing Rakko to control his hands.
Rakko is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Kapane is staying active.

Rakko defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Kapane's arms.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rakko turns into Kapane and is now in his guard.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Rakko misses with a takedown

and Kapane counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Kapane stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Kapane looks to land a combination but Rakko avoids it well.
Rakko throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kapane's waist but Kapane gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rakko off to one side.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rakko is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kapane is just riding it out for now. Rakko eventually gives up the hold.

Rakko is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Kapane has managed to free his arm - good work.
Kapane on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kapane tries to get out of the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rakko is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Rakko is working for a submission of some sort.

Rakko is trying to work for a kimura but Kapane is defending well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kapane has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rakko is working away from the top position though.
Rakko tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kapane knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

A slapping leg kick lands for Kapane.
Rakko changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kapane tries to avoid it but Rakko manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kapane to the ground. Kapane escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kapane throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Rakko displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kapane.
Rakko shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Kapane counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Kapane closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Rakko did well to prevent Kapane getting side control.

Rakko is staying active underneath Kapane, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Kapane shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kapane was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Rakko wants to hold on but Kapane pushes him away.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kapane cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Rakko wants to control but Kapane is having none of it.

Kapane is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Rakko can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rakko tries to lock up and control but Kapane gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Jyrki Kapane overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Rakko is looking to improve his position but Kapane isn't that keen on the idea.
Kapane is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Kapane is going olschool here, as he tries to force Rakko to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Rakko shrugs it off.

Kapane is looking to stand but Kapane has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Rakko tries to hold on but Kapane postures up.
Pate Rakko has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Despite being in the dominant position, Pate Rakko just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rakko doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Kapane counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kapane gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Rakko drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kapane looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kapane looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kapane!

And that's the end of the fight!
Jyrki Kapane showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Kapane has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
