Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Leroy Montes!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Montes throws a series of punches but Short avoids them all with ease.
Short doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Montes cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Montes stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Montes wants it to stay on the feet.
As Short backs off Montes throws a huge counter combo but Short manages to avoid it all.
Nice cross by Montes.
Montes lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Montes misses with a leg kick.
Montes rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Short moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Montes throws a right and a left that Short avoids nicely.
Short with a lazy takedown attempt
and Montes counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter Short. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Montes will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Short throws a head kick but Montes moves out of range.
Short throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Short moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Short walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Oh Short is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Short shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Montes's guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Short's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Short slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Montes is adopting a defensive guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Montes can do anything to dispel that myth.

Short with a flurry of punches that miss.
Short looking to pass the guard.
Short trying to control but Montes is working from the bottom.
Short is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Montes has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Short escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Short!
Montes tries to control but Short manages to take his back.
Will Short go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Short is looking to control Montes but Montes is wriggling around and keeping busy.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Short takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

and Montes counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Oooooh!!! Montes has knocked Short down with a huge combo! Montes steps away and waves a wobbly Short back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Montes has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Short swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Montes counters with a left and a right that stings Short.
Short goes for a double leg but Montes avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Montes continues to drive forward.

Short manages to break the clinch.
Leroy Montes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Short shoots in looking for a takedown. Montes tries to sprawl out of it but Short keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Montes manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Short shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Montes as he jumps to the side.
Montes unleashes a big counter combination but Short bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Montes looks to land a combination but Short avoids it well.

Montes lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Montes.
Short is sent reeling backwards by a solid uppercut. He barely regains his balance and Montes moves in for the kill throwing a continuous barrage of punches that force the ref to step in.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Leroy Montes!
