The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lovell tries to keep at a distance but Mathews has taken the fight into the clinch.
Lovell blocks an uppercut.

Lovell decides to pull guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mathews trying to control the position from guard on top but Lovell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mathews has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Mathews is working Lovell over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Mathews postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Mathews got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lovell has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mathews has managed to get both his arms back between Lovell's legs - danger averted.
Mathews wants to control from the top but Lovell keeps moving.
Mathews knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lovell on the ground.
Mathews won't allow Lovell to sweep him here.
