PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dan Fieldman (ranked 4173 p4p, 4257 weight class) and Antoine Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dan Fieldman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Antoine Drake!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, David Schapiro and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drake jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Dan Fieldman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fieldman tries to sprawl but Drake drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Drake looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Fieldman with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Drake controlling the action here.
Drake scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Drake throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Drake not doing much here.
Drake working Fieldman over with strikes.
Drake looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Drake passes to side control.
Drake scoring with punches and elbows.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Drake just content to control the position.
Let's hope that Drake has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Drake has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Drake manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Fieldman on his heels. He'll look to pass Fieldman's guard now, I'm sure.
Drake controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Drake slips nicely into half guard.

Drake performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Drake looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Drake takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Drake moves nicely into side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fieldman is trying to escape the position but Drake is controlling the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Antoine Drake dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Drake blocks the body kick.
A countering left hand to the body from Drake misses.
Fieldman misses the jab.
Fieldman goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Drake takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Fieldman scores with a nice strike.
Fieldman with a hook.
A punch combination from Fieldman misses.
Drake swings for the body but Fieldman moves out of range.

Drake closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Fieldman quickly recovers to half guard.
Drake working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Drake has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Well, if Drake is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Drake is nestled in close to Fieldman, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Drake cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Drake takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Drake has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Fieldman's face.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Drake.
Drake is landing with some decent strikes but Fieldman is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Antoine Drake showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Drake slips a jab and a cross from Fieldman.
Drake shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Fieldman stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Drake misses with a wild combination.
Fieldman works the jab nicely.
Fieldman scores with a jab to the jaw.
Fieldman moves out of range as Drake strikes.
Drake takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Fieldman cracks Drake with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Fieldman connects with a solid leg kick.
Fieldman lands with a hook. Drake tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Fieldman cracks a nice hook into Drake's ribs.
Fieldman ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Drake moves away.
Drake is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Dan Fieldman is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Fieldman works the jab nicely.
Fieldman feints a jab promting Drake to slip. Fieldman then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Drake slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Fieldman tries a head kick but it misses.
Drake throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Drake throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Fieldman scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Drake displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Fieldman throws out the jab.
A looping hook to the body misses from Fieldman. Drake does a little dance to reset his feet.
Fieldman staying out of range there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fieldman misses with a jab, cross combination.
Dan Fieldman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Drake misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Drake stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Fieldman.
A jab from Fieldman misses.
Fieldman ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Drake wants to land a leg kick but Fieldman is out of range.

Drake gets the takedown into side control.
Drake moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Yet more stalling tactics from Drake.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Drake advances to mount.
Drake controlling his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Drake fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

And that's the end of the fight!
Dan Fieldman showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Drake has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
