Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Chimpo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chimpo has chosen Crazy Train as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Chimpo! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Alyssa Summers and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jones is defended easily by Chimpo. Chimpo ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Jones scores with a punch to the head.
It looks like Johnny Chimpo has been cut. Chimpo bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Jones is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Chimpo. Chimpo has managed to clinch.
Chimpo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jones works Chimpo's body with a nice hook. Chimpo looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Chimpo is keen to just control but Jones is a slippery customer. Jones is trying to maintain the position but Chimpo is very close to passing his half guard. Jones makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jones. Chimpo cracks Jones with a solid left hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chimpo wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving. Jones not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Jones with a lazy takedown attempt and Chimpo counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Jones thinking. Donk. Jones catches Chimpo right on the button with a cross. Jones listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Jones misses with a hook. Chimpo ducked under it nicely. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Jones, as that shot connected.
Chimpo is rocked! Chimpo clinches up with Jones and pushes him back against the cage. Chimpo is still on wobbly legs! Can Jones finish him? Chimpo keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jones's efforts to push away. Chimpo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Chimpo seems to have recovered his senses. Chimpo darts in and clinches Jones up against the cage. Chimpo keeps control of Jones as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Chimpo manages to break the clinch.
Chimpo misses with a wild combination.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chimpo getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Jones throws a body punch but Chimpo moves out of range. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Jones, as that shot connected.
That has opened up Johnny Chimpo's cut even more. Chimpo clinches up with Jones and pushes him back against the cage. The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Chimpo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Chimpo looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Chimpo rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jones moves out of range and avoids them all easily. The fighters circling - Jones throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Chimpo lands with a straight right. Jones didn't see that one coming. Jones lands with a cross. Chimpo looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Chimpo trying to control from half guard but Jones is working away. Jones tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Jones trying to hold on to Chimpo's head to control him but Chimpo postures up.
Chimpo throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Jones works his way to full guard. Good work. Chimpo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Chimpo trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Chimpo has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Jones to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Chimpo is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Jones pulls down on the head and he's put Chimpo to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). James Jones!
