Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Evan Duvernay (ranked 279 p4p, 1062 weight class) and Liwa Kursiwa (ranked 27 p4p, 101 weight class). Duvernay comes to the cage accompanied by Le Vent Nous Portera. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Evan Duvernay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Liwa Kursiwa!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Richard Clark and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Duvernay misses the target.
Kursiwa feints the counter takedown.
Duvernay has been working on his boxing with his coaches at SYDNEY ELITE GYM in the buildup to the fight.
Kursiwa throws a leg kick but Duvernay checks it.
Nice jab there from Duvernay.
Kursiwa goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Duvernay misses with an uppercut

and Kursiwa counters by clinching up.
Kursiwa drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Duvernay breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kursiwa wants to clinch
letting Duvernay counter with a right hand.
Kursiwa misses with a hook.
Kursiwa changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Duvernay tries to avoid it but Kursiwa manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Duvernay to the ground. Duvernay escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kursiwa tries for a takedown but Duvernay sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
A counter left hand to the body from Duvernay misses its target.
Evan Duvernay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Liwa Kursiwa.

Duvernay throws a shot from downtown. Kursiwa moves away and avoids it.
Duvernay staying out of range there.
Kursiwa tries to clinch but Duvernay moves away
letting Duvernay counter with a right hand.
Kursiwa avoids the head kick by Duvernay.
Kursiwa moves out of range as Duvernay strikes.
Kursiwa takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Duvernay thows a leg kick but Kursiwa checks it
and Kursiwa counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Kursiwa gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Duvernay counters with a good, hard body kick but Kursiwa shrugs it off.
Good work by Kursiwa as he checks the leg kick.
Kursiwa looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Kursiwa moves out of range as Duvernay strikes.
Duvernay is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Kursiwa closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Duvernay's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kursiwa slips nicely into half guard.
Duvernay is trying to get back to full guard.

Kursiwa is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Duvernay is trying to control but Kursiwa passes into side control!
Kursiwa working the ground and pound but Duvernay is defending the strikes.
Duvernay dodges the ground and pound from Kursiwa.

Kursiwa advances to mount.
Duvernay is squirming around, avoiding Kursiwa's attempts to control the action.
Kursiwa is stalling here but it's allowed Duvernay to get half guard.
Kursiwa is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Kursiwa looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Duvernay is not content to let Kursiwa control the position.
Duvernay tries to get to full guard but Kursiwa has control of the leg.
Duvernay is positioning himself well to prevent Kursiwa advancing to mount.
Kursiwa slips a nice elbow through Duvernay's hands, connecting with Duvernay's forehead.
Duvernay is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kursiwa scores with a couple of nice shots.
Kursiwa seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Duvernay does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Kursiwa lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Duvernay is trying to stand up here but Kursiwa is controlling him well.
Kursiwa is looking to stall here but Duvernay recovers full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Liwa Kursiwa will probably get the nod.
That's time! Duvernay's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Kursiwa smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Evan Duvernay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Duvernay looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Duvernay tries to land a front kick but Kursiwa steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Duvernay sets himself, and Kursiwa steps forward looking for the clinch! Duvernay avoids it this time.
Duvernay misses with a looping right.
Kursiwa drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Duvernay defends it well.
Kursiwa takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Liwa Kursiwa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kursiwa shoots in for a double leg but Duvernay sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duvernay misses with a looping left.
Duvernay thows a left - swing and a miss!
Duvernay throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Kursiwa counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Kursiwa throws an elbow that misses. Duvernay uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kursiwa's guard. Nice move by Duvernay!

Kursiwa has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Duvernay off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

and Kursiwa counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Duvernay!
Duvernay takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Kursiwa working the body and head with strikes.
Kursiwa tries to advance position but instead Duvernay slips a leg back in to half guard.
Kursiwa trying to mount his opponent but Duvernay defends it.
Kursiwa drops an elbow to the side of Duvernay's head.

Duvernay keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Kursiwa trying to control from half guard but Duvernay is working away.
Kursiwa moves nicely into side control.
Kursiwa has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Duvernay stops Kursiwa from passing to mount.
Duvernay tries to buck Kursiwa off but Kursiwa is having none of it.
Kursiwa trying to control the action but Duvernay is working from the bottom.

Duvernay is trying to get back to half guard.
Kursiwa landing a few strikes.
Kursiwa lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Duvernay manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Duvernay wants to pass the guard but Kursiwa is defending well.
Kursiwa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Kursiwa trying to hold on to Duvernay's head to control him but Duvernay postures up.
Kursiwa is trying to get back to full guard.
Kursiwa gets back to full guard.
Duvernay trying to control but Kursiwa is working from the bottom.
Kursiwa not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Liwa Kursiwa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Duvernay gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Evan Duvernay has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kursiwa trying to control but Duvernay is working from the bottom.

Duvernay looking for a guillotine here but Kursiwa defends easily.
Kursiwa not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Kursiwa pushes down on Duvernay's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Kursiwa thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Duvernay's head.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Duvernay tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Kursiwa has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Kursiwa working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Duvernay is bucking up trying to escape but Kursiwa cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Duvernay is looking to improve his position but Kursiwa isn't that keen on the idea.
Duvernay is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Kursiwa putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Duvernay tries to reverse the position but Kursiwa maintains control.
Duvernay wants to get back to his feet.
Kursiwa lands with some strikes.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Duvernay in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Liwa Kursiwa is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Kursiwa swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Duvernay is now in Kursiwa's guard. A big mistake from Kursiwa there, giving up the dominant position!

And that's the end of the fight!
Liwa Kursiwa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kursiwa winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
