PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cowen Collard (ranked 4813 p4p, 25580 weight class) and Nikolas Conner (ranked 274 p4p, 307 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cowen Collard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nikolas Conner!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Conner tries to clinch but Collard is having none of it.
Conner waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Collard.
Nikolas Conner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Conner throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Collard counters by clinching up.

Collard is trying to trip Conner. He has hold of a leg but Conner is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Collard persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Collard slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Collard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A lull in the action here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Collard decides to stand up, so the ref orders Conner to his feet.

Collard darts in and clinches Conner up against the cage.

Collard's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Collard rushes Conner and presses him up against the cage.

Conner won't allow Collard to sweep him here.

Collard is looking for a triangle but Conner pushes his legs off easily.

Collard has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Conner has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Collard breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Collard closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Conner quickly recovers to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Collard throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Collard perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Conner is trying to maintain the position but Collard is very close to passing his half guard.

Collard decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Collard looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Collard moves into the clinch.
Collard fails to pull guard.

Collard pulls guard.
Collard pulls Conner in to control the position.
Collard wants to sweep here but Conner controlling him for the moment.
Collard pulls Conner in close to his closed guard and prevents Conner from doing any damage or advancing position.
Conner passes Collard's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Conner looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Conner is looking to advance position but Collard won't allow it.

Collard kicks Conner off and gets back to his feet.
Conner tries to clinch but Collard moves away
and Collard counters with a nice leg kick.

Collard appears to be looking for a big counter.

Collard drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Collard is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Cowen Collard dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Conner shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Collard eats them both and turns towards Conner to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Collard is rocked!
Conner stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Conner wants it to stay on the feet.
Collard goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Conner defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Collard.
Conner throws a combination that misses

and Collard counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Conner!
Conner tries to bench press Collard off him but Collard keeps the position.

Collard in side control lands a decent elbow.

Collard is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Conner can do to turn this around?
Collard is putting a hurting on Conner here, landing some big shots from side control.

Collard decides to stand back up. Collard steps back and let's Conner get back to his feet.
Collard scores with a head kick. Conner tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Conner tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Collard was well out of range. Poor timing from Conner.
Conner throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Collard takes the fight into the clinch.

Collard breaks from the clinch.
Nikolas Conner is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Conner tries to bum rush Collard with a series of wild strikes but Collard uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Conner tries to clinch up but Collard circles away and keeps his distance.
Conner lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Conner lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Collard has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Collard and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Conner throws a jab when Collard was well out of range.
Conner doesn't manage to clinch there - Collard circles away.
Collard will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cowen Collard. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Conner thuds his right hand into Collard's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Oh Collard is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Collard ducks into an uppercut from Conner and that's knocked him out cold! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:09 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Nikolas Conner!
