Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lawson Serrano (ranked 533 p4p, 1167 weight class) and Adrian Ortiz (ranked 72 p4p, 149 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lawson Serrano! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Adrian Ortiz! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Daniel Franklin and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ortiz keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Ortiz connects with a single shot there.
It looks like Lawson Serrano has been cut. Ortiz cracks Serrano with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Ortiz has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Ortiz scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Ortiz scores with a jab to the jaw. Serrano is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
We've been hearing reports that Serrano has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Ortiz throws a lazy right hand but Serrano sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Jab, jab by Ortiz - just one landing. Serrano keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ortiz lands an overhand right. Adrian Ortiz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ortiz tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Serrano was well out of range. Poor timing from Ortiz. Serrano tries to counter with a takedown but Ortiz is quick to defend against it. Ortiz misses with a series of wild punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Ortiz is trying to hold Serrano in close to prevent damage but Serrano has managed to pass into half guard.
Still in half guard, Serrano seems content to control. Serrano working the head and body with strikes. Ortiz desperately trying to maintain half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Serrano looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Serrano passes to full mount! Ortiz's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Serrano raining down hammerfists from mount. Serrano sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ortiz can do anything to dispel that myth. Serrano wants to finish this one by submission but Ortiz is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Serrano.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Serrano with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Ortiz is in a horrible position here. Serrano smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Serrano lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Lawson Serrano! A determined Lawson Serrano didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
