Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Ryan (ranked 173 p4p, 538 weight class) and Gabriel Soares (ranked 20 p4p, 69 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 25 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eddie Ryan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 21 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gabriel Soares! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ryan fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Ryan throws a hook but Soares avoids it easily. Soares tries to counter by closing the distance. Ryan bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Ryan just misses with a punch to the body.
Ryan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Soares manages to avoid it. Soares wants to counter the offense by Ryan and move into the clinch position. Soares throws a hook to the side of Ryan's head but Ryan sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Soares moves in looking to clinch but Ryan pushes him off. Ryan loads up on a big right hand but Soares slips the punch. Soares changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Eddie Ryan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Soares moves forwards but Ryan connects with a nice, crisp jab. Ryan fails to land the takedown. Ryan sets himself, and Soares steps forward looking for the clinch! Ryan avoids it this time. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Good shot there by Soares. Ryan throws a shot from downtown. Soares moves away and avoids it.

The fighters circling - Ryan throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Soares is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ryan. Good shot there by Ryan. Soares pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Ryan tries to counter with a takedown but Soares is quick to defend against it. Gabriel Soares is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Ryan misses with a looping right. Soares shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Ryan throws a front kick aimed at Soares's knee but Soares avoids it well. Soares just misses with a punch to the body.
A decent looking cross lands there for Ryan. Soares leaves Ryan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Soares tries to counter with a clinch but Ryan shakes him off and moves away. Soares ducks under a wild hook from Ryan.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ryan throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Ryan avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ryan throws a looping overhand right but Soares ducks down to avoid it. A telegraphed right hand from Ryan misses the target. Ryan ducks under a wild hook from Soares. Soares takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Soares misses with a left hand and Ryan counters with a nice double leg into side control. Soares won't be happy with that. Soares tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Ryan presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Soares keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Ryan jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Soares manages to avoid the submission attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ryan swings around for an armbar but Soares sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Ryan's guard. Ryan has his foot on Soares's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Soares works his way back into a safe position though. Soares looking to sit in guard and control but Ryan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Soares is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Ryan looking to pass the guard.

Ryan is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Soares controlling the position for now. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Soares is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Eddie Ryan is winning the standup battle so far. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Ryan keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Soares on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Soares tries to clinch up but Ryan circles away and keeps his distance. Soares throws a body punch but Ryan moves out of range. Soares wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Ryan moves in looking to clinch but Soares pushes him off. A shot to the liver by Ryan. Beautiful body shot.

Ryan drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Soares is pulling down on Ryan's head to control his posture. Ryan tries to free his leg and advance position but Soares is retaining full guard. Soares is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ryan defends well. Ryan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ryan drops back, looking for a kneebar! Soares looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Soares looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Soares!
Soares is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ryan has escaped the position, nice work there. Soares is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ryan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Gabriel Soares has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Eddie Ryan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Soares thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Eddie Ryan. Well Ryan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
