PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dawindi Buktot (ranked 23978 p4p, 23907 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 57 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dawindi Buktot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 48 - 51 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Buktot enables Nada to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Buktot manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Nada slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Buktot is pulling down on Nada's head to control his posture.
Nada is stalling in the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buktot looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Nada puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Buktot is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Nada perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Nada shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Nada showed some decent athleticism there.

Buktot manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Nada keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Nada wants the takedown. Buktot is fighting it off but Nada persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Buktot's guard against the cage.

Nada throws a big right hand that misses.
Buktot wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Buktot tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Nada seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Buktot scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Nada is looking for a sweep.
Buktot remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
You can see the frustration on Nada's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dawindi Buktot will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

No luck for Nada with that takedown attempt.
It appears Buktot was looking to counter with a kick there.

Buktot tries to buck Nada off but Nada is having none of it.
Buktot defending against the ground and pound.
Nada is looking to take a break and control but Buktot is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Nada throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nada trying to control the action but Buktot is working from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nada stuffs the takedown attempt from Buktot. Buktot gets slowly back to his feet.
Nada tries for a takedown but Buktot sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Buktot dives in and grabs Nada's left leg, looking for a takedown. Nada pushes down on Buktot's head and hops out.
Nada is trying to counter with his kicks.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Nada looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Buktot is concentrating on defense, preventing Nada from advancing position.
Nada looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Nada sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Nada is thwarting Buktot's attempts to control the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Way Nada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Nada throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Buktot's waist but Buktot gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nada off to one side.
And Buktot counters with a quick kick to the body but Nada blocks it.
Nada defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Buktot.
Nada now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

Buktot was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nada looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Dawindi Buktot has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.

Nada drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Nada tries to stand but Buktot is controlling his head.
Buktot is trying to control Nada's posture but Nada avoids it.

Nada wants to control but Buktot is keeping him busy.
Buktot tries to improve position but can't.
Nada controlling the position from side mount.
Nada working away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nada trying to control the position but Buktot is working away.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Buktot scores with a takedown into Nada's guard.
Buktot wants to control from the top but Nada keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Buktot not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Nada is pulling down on Buktot's head. It's preventing any offense from Buktot, at least for the moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dawindi Buktot.
I think Buktot has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
