The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Swanson closes the distance and clinches up with Grenier, looking for a takedown. Swanson pushes Grenier against the cage but Grenier circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Swanson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Grenier won't be happy with that.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Grenier is looking for a triangle but Swanson pushes his legs off easily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That was a close round but I would say that Derrel Grenier will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Grenier passes Swanson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Grenier uses his free foot to push down on Swanson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Swanson.
Grenier wants to control the pace but Swanson is squirming around nicely.

Grenier is working to isolate an arm here. It's a choreographed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Grenier extends the arm and Swanson is forced to tap!
