PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 23849 p4p, 23801 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wala Sapi has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 53 - 10, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 45 - 48 - 9, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Sapi looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Sapi dives in and grabs Mibangon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mibangon pushes down on Sapi's head and hops out.
It looked like Mibangon was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Sapi.

Sapi gets caught flat footed, as Mibangon shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mibangon showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Sapi wants to sweep but no luck.

Mibangon sitting in guard here, content to control.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Sapi holds on and takes a little breather.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sapi trying to keep a closed guard but Mibangon is proving a slippery customer.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Mibangon will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
And Sapi responds with a good body kick, but Mibangon manages to step out the way in time.
Mibangon throws the kick towards the body but Sapi avoids it.
Sapi replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Mibangon blocks it well.
No luck for Sapi with that takedown attempt.
Minatay Mibangon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wala Sapi.

Sapi slaps away a takedown attempt from Mibangon, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Mibangon feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Sapi is looking for a sweep.
Mibangon trying to control the position but Sapi is working away.

Mibangon controls the position from side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Minatay Mibangon dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Mibangon looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sapi is fending him off so far but Mibangon persists. Nope, Sapi circles away and we're back to standing.
Sapi is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Sapi shoots in for a takedown but Mibangon shows good takedown defense.

Sapi closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mibangon did well to prevent Sapi getting side control.
Sapi not landing any meaningful shots this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mibangon is staying active underneath Sapi, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mibangon is looking to control Sapi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mibangon avoid being mounted?
Mibangon is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sapi is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Still in half guard, Sapi seems content to control.
Mibangon keeping hold of Sapi's head, controlling as best he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mibangon fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sapi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mibangon.
Sapi follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Minatay Mibangon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sapi closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mibangon's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mibangon is adopting a defensive guard.
Sapi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Wala Sapi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Sapi looks for a takedown but Mibangon sprawls well.
Mibangon jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.

Sapi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mibangon's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi throws a big elbow that misses.
Sapi is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mibangon is pulling down on Sapi's head to control his posture.
Sapi is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mibangon wants to sweep here but Sapi controlling him for the moment.
Mibangon seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sapi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
It looked like Mibangon was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Sapi drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Sapi is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Mibangon will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mibangon holds on to Sapi's head and controls the position momentarily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sapi is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Mibangon will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Mibangon has one of Sapi's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sapi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
