PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ross Lewis (ranked 4138 p4p, 4154 weight class) and George Floydd (ranked 0 p4p, 432 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ross Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, George Floydd!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Winston Howard and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Floydd throws a sloppy head kick and Lewis moves out of range easily.
Lewis misses with a takedown attempt - Floydd sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Lewis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Lewis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Lewis throws a right hand that Floydd ducks under and follows up with a left that Floydd also avoids with ease.

Lewis darts in and clinches Floydd up against the cage.
Lewis has Floydd pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Floydd manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ross Lewis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Floydd prevents Lewis from breaking the clinch.
Lewis wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Floydd pulls guard successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lewis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Floydd tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Floydd is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Floydd winds up and cracks Lewis with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Floydd is trying to control the action in half guard but Lewis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Floydd has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Floydd wants to take Lewis's back here but Lewis is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Lewis tries to lock up and control but Floydd gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Lewis is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Floydd is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Floydd wants to control the pace but Lewis is squirming around nicely.

Lewis is looking to improve his position but Floydd isn't that keen on the idea.

Lewis is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Lewis holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Floydd tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Lewis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Floydd on the ground.
Floydd throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Floydd is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Lewis to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Lewis shrugs it off.

Floydd unloads with some shots from mount but Lewis bucks and avoids them well.

Lewis is wriggling around trying to escape.

Floydd can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lewis is looking to escape.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

George Floydd dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Floydd gets tackled into the cage by Lewis. Lewis maintains the clinch.
Lewis scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Lewis prevents a takedown attempt there.
Floydd is trying to break the clinch but Lewis is controlling him.
Floydd fails to pull guard.

Lewis is looking to control Floydd's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lewis avoid being mounted?

Floydd moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Lewis.

Floydd tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Floydd has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Floydd wants to control but Lewis is keeping him busy.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Floydd postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lewis is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Floydd tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Lewis is looking to improve his position.

Lewis makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Lewis shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Floydd defends it nicely.

Lewis fails to land the takedown.
Floydd is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Floydd keeps the fight on the outside.
Floydd stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Floydd wants it to stay on the feet.

Lewis shoots for a double leg takedown but Floydd sprawls well. He's pushed Lewis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lewis manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Lewis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Floydd throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Floydd shoots in and drives through. Lewis sprawls well.
Lewis scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Floydd doesn't seem bothered though.

Floydd closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Lewis's guard.
Lewis wants to control the position but Floydd says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Lewis moves into full guard.
Floydd throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lewis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Floydd pushing down on Lewis's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Lewis is trying to stand.
Floydd tries to pass the half guard into mount. Lewis knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Floydd is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Lewis uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Floydd.
Lewis tries to counter with a takedown but Floydd is quick to defend against it.
Floydd throws a chopping leg kick but Lewis manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Lewis appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Floydd feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

I think Floydd has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
