PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a super heavyweight kickboxing rules bout between Gamma Elit (ranked 25560 p4p, 5331 weight class) and Darwin Hampton (ranked 242 p4p, 209 weight class). Darwin Hampton told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gamma Elit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Darwin Hampton!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Chris Dean and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hampton throws out a powerful jab.
Hampton throws a hook but Elit avoids it easily.
It looked like Elit wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Hampton bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Elit's head backwards.
Hampton scores with a decent looking hook.
Hampton throws a looping overhand right but Elit ducks down to avoid it.
Hampton throws a right hand that misses
and Elit counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hampton lands with a right hand.
Elit slips a jab and a cross from Hampton.
Elit throwing a counter right hand but Hampton manages to avoid it.
Hampton throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Hampton misses with a straight left.
Elit appears to be looking for a big counter.
Elit takes one to the chin there.
Hampton looks to throw the jab but Elit is out of range.
Elit takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Hampton might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Hampton misses with a right hand
and Elit connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Elit takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Hampton just misses with a punch to the body.

Hampton scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Elit slips a straight right by Hampton.
Elit seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Hampton throws a hook to the side of Elit's head but Elit sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Hampton lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Elit displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hampton throws out the jab.
It looked like Elit was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nice defenses there by Elit.
As Hampton looks to move away, Elit throws a big counter combo but Hampton just gets out of the way.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Darwin Hampton dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Hampton lunges at Elit with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Elit's hand.
Elit drops his hands momentarily and Hampton takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Darwin Hampton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hampton looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Hampton throws a jab but it's blocked by Elit.
Elit on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Hampton cracks Elit with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Hampton cracks Elit with a perfect right hand that drops him to the mat! Elit is sitting up but I can't see if he's OK from my position. The referee's count has reached 5,6,7 and Elit is still not up. Can he make it? 8,9, he's up! Wow, he cut that one a bit fine!

Hampton throws a shot from downtown. Elit moves away and avoids it.
Elit throwing a counter right hand but Hampton manages to avoid it.
Hampton throws a hook to the side of Elit's head but Elit sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Elit is looking to counter punch.
Elit blocks a jab.
Hampton fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Hampton works the jab nicely.
Hampton is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Elit.
Elit throws a big counter combination but Hampton scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Elit slips a straight right by Hampton.
Elit seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Elit takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Elit blocks a jab.
Elit swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Elit tries to move into range but Hampton moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Hampton misses with a combination
and as Hampton looks to reset his feet, Elit counters with a string of precision punches, right on the button, sending Hampton crashing to the canvas! Hampton is in big trouble here! The referee has started the count but Hampton is so wobbly that the ref has given up the count at 6 - he's called the bout off! Elit is your winner!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Gamma Elit!
After winning the bout, Gamma Elit thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
