In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 33 wins and 68 losses; David McDonald! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 30 wins and 23 losses; Roman Kersikov! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Steven Brown and Colin Fotheringham.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. McDonald shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: McDonald (2) vs (0) Kersikov Our spies down at at KFA inform us that Kersikov has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? McDonald trying to control but Kersikov is working from the bottom. McDonald trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. McDonald passes Kersikov's right leg, so he's now in half guard. McDonald tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kersikov knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Kersikov makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kersikov. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kersikov keeping moving, preventing McDonald from controlling successfully. McDonald has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

McDonald trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Kersikov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. McDonald is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Kersikov is figuring out what he wants to do next.

McDonald moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Kersikov controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Kersikov's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

McDonald is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Kersikov wants to pass the guard but McDonald is keeping the position.

Let's hope that Kersikov has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Kersikov preventing the sweep. That's six minutes gone in the round. McDonald is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kersikov is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kersikov got a little sloppy there for a moment and McDonald has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kersikov has managed to get both his arms back between McDonald's legs - danger averted. McDonald looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Kersikov is fighting to break McDonald's control of his arms but McDonald is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. McDonald working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kersikov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kersikov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. McDonald pulls Kersikov in to control the position. Kersikov engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Kersikov controls from within his opponent's guard. McDonald not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
McDonald looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kersikov is one step ahead there. McDonald has his foot on Kersikov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kersikov works his way back into a safe position though.

Kersikov passes McDonald's left leg - he's now in half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kersikov in particular looking to stall.
And that's the end of the fight! Kersikov wins on points by 5 to 2. A very excited looking Roman Kersikov made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet.
