PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mario Waters (ranked 3822 p4p, 3252 weight class) and Deveon Zelda (ranked 413 p4p, 359 weight class). Zelda has chosen Immortal Technique - The Point of No Return as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mario Waters! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Deveon Zelda! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Winston Alpacca and Bart Greer.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zelda digs a good body shot into Waters's ribs. Waters will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Waters closes this distance looking for a takedown but Zelda circles away. A little jabbing left from Zelda on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Waters is trying hard to land a takedown here. Zelda sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Zelda looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mario Waters. That's going to take a lot out of him. Waters slips a straight right by Zelda. Waters shoots in but no luck this time. Zelda fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Waters looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Waters is breathing heavily. Waters shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Zelda's guard. Waters postures up.
Zelda seems keen to control Waters's posture. Waters trying to control the position from guard on top but Zelda is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Zelda is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zelda keeping moving, preventing Waters from controlling successfully. Waters drops back looking for a leg! Zelda is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Zelda manages to kick Waters off! Waters jumps back into Zelda's guard.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Zelda feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Waterss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
It looks like Mario Waters has been cut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Waters doesn't succeed with the takedown and Zelda counters with a huge right that knocks Waters out cold! Zelda is running around with a crazed look on his face - you can see how much that meant to him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:13 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Deveon Zelda! An out of breath Deveon Zelda thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
