The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newton closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gamboa is trying to get back to half guard.
Newton is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gamboa is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Gamboa manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Newton is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Gamboa has managed to free his arm - good work.
Gamboa tries to get to full guard but Newton has control of the leg.
The fighters are battling for position here. Gamboa manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Gamboa wants to sweep here but Newton controlling him for the moment.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
