And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 52 wins and 65 losses; Anthony Lavicci! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Steven Brown and James Atkins.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Lavicci shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ramirez pinned against the cage. Ramirez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Ramirez scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. That's two minutes gone in the round. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Lavicci is in all sorts of trouble here.

Ramirez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lavicci is looking to improve his position but Ramirez isn't that keen on the idea. Ramirez controlling from the full mount.

Lavicci is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Ramirez.
Lavicci manages to reverse the position and now he's in Ramirez's guard. Nice work there by Lavicci.

Ramirez swivels though and keeps the full guard. Lavicci works a leg free and moves into half guard. Lavicci is figuring out what he wants to do next. Lavicci is working for a kimura but Ramirez is defending it quite comfortably.

That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Lavicci prevents Ramirez from improving his position. Lavicci looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ramirez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Lavicci. Ramirez wants to control but Lavicci is keeping busy and won't allow it.

He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Lavicci seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Ramirez has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
