Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ciro Tavernelli (ranked 4052 p4p, 4011 weight class) and Shota Imanaga (ranked 421 p4p, 419 weight class). Shota Imanaga will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ciro Tavernelli! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shota Imanaga! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Imanaga tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tavernelli paws at him with a jab and circles away. Tavernelli throws a big shot that misses. Imanaga flicks out a counter leg kick but Tavernelli steps away. Tavernelli ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Imanaga moves away. Imanaga should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Imanaga throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Tavernelli's head. Tavernelli connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Imanaga momentarily.
Tavernelli closes the distance and clinches up with Imanaga, looking for a takedown. Tavernelli pushes Imanaga against the cage but Imanaga circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Imanaga throws a counter combo. Tavernelli fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Imanaga sprawls well initially but Tavernelli persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Tavernelli is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Imanaga reverses the position - he's now on top in Tavernelli's guard. Tavernelli is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's one minute gone in the round. Imanaga seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Tavernelli pulls Imanaga in close to prevent any damage. Tavernelli has his feet on Imanaga's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Tavernelli misses the jab. Tavernelli just misses with a punch to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Imanaga slips a jab from Tavernelli. Tavernelli throws a body punch but Imanaga moves out of range. Imanaga throws a counter combo. Tavernelli shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Tavernelli was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Imanaga defending against the ground and pound. Tavernelli working the head with strikes. Imanaga struggling a bit here. Imanaga is trying to escape the position but Tavernelli is controlling the position. Imanaga tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tavernelli wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Tavernelli misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tavernelli trying to control the position but Imanaga is working away. Tavernelli is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Imanaga is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Tavernelli lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Imanaga down.
Tavernelli advances to full mount. Tavernelli lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Imanaga hang on? Tavernelli has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Tavernelli scoring with strikes but Imanaga is staying in there. Tavernelli throwing strikes but Imanaga uses the opportunity to regain half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tavernelli is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Imanaga looks winded! Tavernelli is nestled in close to Imanaga, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Imanaga seems to have recovered his senses. Tavernelli wants to take a breather but Imanaga is having none of it. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Tavernelli throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Tavernelli not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Ciro Tavernelli dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Imanaga tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tavernelli swats him away and circles back towards the center. Tavernelli cracks Imanaga with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Ciro Tavernelli seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Tavernelli misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Tavernelli looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Imanaga! Tavernelli in side control, throwing shots but Imanaga defends. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tavernelli throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Imanaga works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Imanaga tries to roll over but Tavernelli keeps him under control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tavernelli missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Tavernelli takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Tavernelli lands a nice short elbow. Imanaga wants to improve his position but Tavernelli is controlling well.

Tavernelli looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Imanaga with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Tavernelli is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Imanaga doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Tavernelli. Tavernelli working the head and body with strikes.

Ciro Tavernelli dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round! The fighters circle momentarily. Tavernelli darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Tavernelli throws a jab but it's blocked by Imanaga. Imanaga bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Tavernelli can't do much from the bottom here. Tavernelli manages to get back to half guard. Tavernelli keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Imanaga takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Imanaga ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Tavernelli scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Imanaga tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tavernelli wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Tavernelli lands some shots froms side control. Tavernelli moves into full mount! Tavernelli with a couple of short strikes. Tavernelli landing punches. Tavernelli is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Imanaga can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The referee warns Imanaga that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
A big strike lands for Tavernelli! That's really hurt Imanaga and he's turned his back - Tavernelli keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Tavernelli jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
