And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 95 wins and 61 losses; Bogdan Kersikov! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Donald Grub and Sam Margolis.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Horrible takedown attempt by McDonald or perhaps it was just good defense by Kersikov, which made it look bad. McDonald is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kersikov's half guard. McDonald is looking to stall here but Kersikov recovers full guard. McDonald wants to control from the top but Kersikov keeps moving. McDonald has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McDonald slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Kersikov preventing the sweep. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McDonald tries to reverse the position but Kersikov maintains control. McDonald tries to lock up and control but Kersikov gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. What can McDonald do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
That's eight minutes gone in the round. It looks like Kersikov might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Kersikov is not going to allow McDonald to sit and survive in this position. You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Kersikov really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for McDonald. McDonald tries to roll but Kersikov sticks to his back.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Good control from Kersikov. McDonald manages to reverse the position and now he's in Kersikov's guard. Nice work there by McDonald.

Kersikov tries to land a sweep but no joy. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Kersikov has McDonald pulled in close to control his posture. McDonald's corner is telling him to maintain position.
And that's the end of the fight! Kersikov wins on points by 11 to 4. A very excited looking Bogdan Kersikov made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction. In defeat, David McDonald stepped up to the mic, saying 'Fall down seven times, get up eight.'. |
