This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 43 wins and 39 losses; Sirus Hughes! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 10 wins and 25 losses; Desi Kraag! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Kraag gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hughes to score an easy takedown into full guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Hughes (2) vs (0) Kraag Hughes pushes down on Kraag's leg and manages to get into half guard. Hughes sitting and controlling from the half guard. Hughes is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kraag defends it well. Kraag wants to control but Hughes is keeping busy.
Kraag is staying active underneath Hughes, who seems content to just control the action from this position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kraag looking for submissions off his back. Kraag is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hughes pulls his head out easily. Kraag should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Kraag wants to control but Hughes is keeping busy.

Hughes has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Hughes is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kraag has escaped the position, nice work there. Kraag can't do much from the bottom here. Hughes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kraag keeps working. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Kraag tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hughes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Hughes tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Hughes thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Kraag can't do much from the bottom here. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Kraag is looking to reverse the position. Hughes working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Hughes in side control, just content to control the action for now. Kraag can't do much from the bottom here.

Hughes is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Kraag struggling a bit here. That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here. Kraag is not content to let Hughes control the position. Kraag seems a little lost for a moment, as Hughes dominates the positioning. Kraag can't do much from the bottom here. Kraag is looking for a sweep. Hughes trying to control the action but Kraag is working from the bottom. Kraag tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hughes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Hughes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kraag, who protects the arm well. Kraag is trying to improve his position. Kraag is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. You can see the frustration on Kraag's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Kraag is not content to let Hughes control the position. Kraag is trying to control Hughes's posture but Hughes avoids it. Hughes has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Kraag is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Hughes yanks on the arm and Kraag is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Hughes.
