And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 10 wins and 24 losses; Filmore Everett! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Everett closes the distance and clinches. Fontaine drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Fontaine has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Everett after a bit of a struggle. Fontaine is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the ropes enables Everett to keep the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Trip Fontaine. That's going to take a lot out of him. Fontaine is trying to drag Everett to the mat but Everett just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there. Fontaine is trying to pull guard but Everett has him pressed against the ropes. Everett jumps guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fontaine tries to free his leg and advance position but Everett is retaining full guard. Fontaine really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Fontaine is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Fontaine is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Everett controlling the position easily from mount.

The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Fontaine manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Fontaine makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Fontaine. That's ten minutes gone in the round. Everett controlling the pace. Everett is looking to stall here but Fontaine recovers full guard. Fontaine is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Everett preventing the sweep.

Everett tries to pass to full mount but Fontaine defends it. Fontaine moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Everett is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Everett trying to control the position from guard on top but Fontaine is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Fontaine is staying active underneath Everett, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Fontaine is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Everett's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Everett's back! Fontaine working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. Everett really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fontaine. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Fontaine (7) vs (9) Everett Everett must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Fontaine had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Everett defends it easily. Fontaine is breathing heavily. Everett looking to pass the guard. Fontaine has an active guard here but Everett has managed to pass into half guard.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Everett is looking for a kimura but Fontaine is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Everett to get the leverage. Everett wants to work for an arm triangle but Fontaine is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
