PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mombasa Magabi (ranked 1853 p4p, 2585 weight class) and Cactus Jack (ranked 221 p4p, 315 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mombasa Magabi !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Cactus Jack!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jack has taken the fight to the clinch.

Jack has hold of one of Magabi 's legs. Magabi is fighting the takedown attempt but Jack gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Magabi pulls Jack in close to prevent any damage.
Jack trying to control the position from guard on top but Magabi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Magabi pulls Jack in close to his closed guard and prevents Jack from doing any damage or advancing position.
Jack trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jack works over Magabi with some ground and pound from guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jack wants to pass the guard but Magabi is keeping the position.
Magabi pulls Jack in close to his closed guard and prevents Jack from doing any damage or advancing position.

Magabi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jack on the ground.

Jack has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Jack drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Magabi manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jack has Magabi in his guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Magabi is stalling in the full guard.

Jack has his foot on Magabi 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Magabi works his way back into a safe position though.

Jack is looking for a sweep. Magabi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jack felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Jack can't escape the position.
Jack tries to hold on but Magabi postures up.
Magabi tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Jack is looking to improve his position but Magabi isn't that keen on the idea.
Jack swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Jack is working to get back to half guard.
Jack wants to hold on but Magabi pushes him away.

Jack is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Magabi is staying active.
Magabi controlling the position easily from mount.
Jack keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jack wants to hold on but Magabi pushes him away.
Jack is looking to improve his position but Magabi isn't that keen on the idea.
Jack is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Jack is wriggling around trying to escape.
Jack wants to control but Magabi is having none of it.

Magabi controlling the pace for now.
Jack tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Magabi takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jack is working to get back to half guard.
Jack tries to hold on but Magabi postures up.
Jack is looking to get to half guard.

That's nine minutes gone in the round.
Magabi looking to control and managing it successfully.

Magabi manages to capitalize on a mistake by Jack to take his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
What can Jack do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Jack turns into Magabi and is now in his guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jack postures up in Magabi 's guard and throws a big left but Magabi blocks it.
Jack throwing strikes but missing.
Jack engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mombasa Magabi will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!

Cactus Jack is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jack stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Magabi swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jack throws a strike but Magabi rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Jack thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Magabi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Cactus Jack seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jack moves in looking to clinch but Magabi pushes him off.
Jack misses with a looping left.
Magabi looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Magabi throws a series of strikes that have Jack backpedaling.
Jack throws a series of punches but Magabi avoids them all with ease.
A counter left hand to the body from Magabi misses its target.
Jack throws a combination. Magabi tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Magabi moves into range and connects with a jab.
Jack shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Magabi defends it nicely.
Mombasa Magabi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cactus Jack.

Jack fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Magabi was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Jack has closed the distance and engaged Magabi in a clinch.
Magabi can't find room to land a body shot as Jack controls the action.
A right handed body shot lands from Magabi .
Jack is breathing heavily.
Magabi stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Jack has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Magabi avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Magabi has Jack pushed against the cage.
Magabi scores with a hook to the body.
Magabi pushes Jack back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Magabi lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Jack.
Magabi throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Magabi keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jack's efforts to push away.

The referee calls for Magabi to work.
A left hand lands to the body for Magabi .
Magabi lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Jack backwards.
Magabi tries to work over Jack's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Magabi breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jack shoots for a double leg takedown but Magabi sprawls well. He's pushed Jack's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jack shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Magabi sprawls well. Magabi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jack gets slowly back to his feet.
Jack tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Magabi paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Magabi takes one on the button.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Magabi slips a jab and a cross from Jack.
Magabi lands a nice leg kick that just misses Jack's sensitive parts.
Magabi is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jack can do to turn this around?

Jack darts in looking for a takedown but Magabi gets double underhooks and turns Jack into the cage.
Mombasa Magabi is winning the standup battle so far.
Magabi is looking to slow Jack down with leg kicks.
Jack fails with an attempt to clinch.
Magabi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Magabi wants it to stay on the feet.
Jack tries to clinch but Magabi moves away
and Magabi counters with a left to the body.
Magabi jabs Jack to the body, keeping him at a distance.
A nice leg kick from Magabi , right into the meat of the thigh.
Magabi tries to work over Jack's front leg with a kick but Jack checks it.
Jack tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Jack pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Magabi back to the cage. Jack follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Magabi lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Jack at a distance.
Jack doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Jack chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Magabi can pounce on him.

Magabi lands a big head kick that sends Jack tumbling to the mat! Magabi takes a step backwards and waves Jack back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Jack is rocked!

It looks like Cactus Jack has been cut.
Magabi is looking to wear down Jack with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Jack throws out a leg kick but Magabi moves out of range and Jack only half commits.
Jack is still on wobbly legs! Can Magabi finish him?
Magabi lands a brutal uppercut that launches Jack off his feet! Jack tumbles to the floor, barely conscious - the referee jumps in to save him from a beating! Wow, what an ending!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 6:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Mombasa Magabi !
