PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Evan Duvernay (ranked 170 p4p, 586 weight class) and Davdio Branko (ranked 15 p4p, 54 weight class). Duvernay comes into the arena with Le Vent Nous Portera blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 36 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Evan Duvernay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 29 - 0, fighting out of London, Davdio Branko!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Branko defending well as Duvernay loads up on a big left hand.
Branko is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
A swing and a miss from Duvernay.
Duvernay throws a low kick, looking for Branko's leg but Branko calmly moves out of range.
Branko tries to counter with a clinch but Duvernay shakes him off and moves away.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Branko has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Duvernay dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Branko shoots in for a double leg but Duvernay sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A quick step to the side and Duvernay tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Duvernay has been working on his boxing with his coaches at SYDNEY ELITE GYM in the buildup to the fight.
Duvernay blocks the body kick.
Branko will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Branko misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Evan Duvernay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Davdio Branko.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Branko misses with a takedown
and Duvernay cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
No luck for Branko with that takedown attempt.
An attempted straight right counter from Duvernay misses the target.
Davdio Branko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Branko slips a jab from Duvernay.
Branko shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Duvernay counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Branko is defended easily by Duvernay.
Branko stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Duvernay.
Branko misses with a takedown attempt - Duvernay sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Duvernay tried to counter with a leg kick but Branko avoided it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Duvernay connects with the punch.
Duvernay throws the left hand but Branko avoids the punch easily.
Branko misses with a takedown attempt
and Duvernay counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

It looks like Davdio Branko has been cut.
Duvernay swings for the body but Branko moves out of range.
Evan Duvernay is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Branko fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Duvernay avoids it really well and circles away.
Duvernay feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Duvernay stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Duvernay wants it to stay on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Duvernay. No joy for Branko on that attempt.
A little feinted left hand from Duvernay on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Duvernay fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Branko on the side of the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Duvernay lands a nice leg kick that just misses Branko's sensitive parts.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Duvernay throws a looping overhand right but Branko ducks down to avoid it.
Branko is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Branko looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Duvernay is fending him off so far but Branko persists. Nope, Duvernay circles away and we're back to standing.
Duvernay throws a shot to the body.
Duvernay looks to throw the jab but Branko is out of range.
Branko keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Branko has his takedown stuffed
and Duvernay counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Branko shoots for a double leg takedown but Duvernay sprawls well. He's pushed Branko's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Duvernay connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Branko closes the distance and clinches up with Duvernay, looking for a takedown. Branko pushes Duvernay against the cage but Duvernay circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Branko has his takedown stuffed

and Duvernay lands a stunning uppercut that sends Branko to the mat!

Branko is rocked!
Branko looks winded!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Duvernay passes to full mount!
Branko is still in real trouble! Can Duvernay finish him?

Duvernay stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Branko seems to have recovered his senses.
Branko darts in trying to clinch
and Duvernay counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Branko misses with a takedown attempt
and Duvernay counters with a crisp right that sends Branko to the canvas! Duvernay follows up with punches from the mount and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Evan Duvernay!
During a confident post fight interview, Evan Duvernay thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
