PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Moca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and victo dantas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). dantas has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Frank Moca!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, victo dantas!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Paulo Santos and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Moca pushes dantas up against the cage in a clinch.
dantas looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Moca escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Moca avoids a kick to the body.
Moca is looking to clinch but dantas is avoiding it.

Moca clinches up with dantas and pushes him back against the cage.

Moca lands a takedown into guard.
Moca wants to control from the top but dantas keeps moving.

Moca stands up and waves to dantas to follow him.
Moca stuffs the takedown attempt from dantas. dantas gets slowly back to his feet.
Moca throws a right and a left that both miss.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Moca.
dantas circles away from the clinch attempt.
victo dantas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Moca drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Moca working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Moca has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Moca drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Moca gets to his feet. dantas looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
dantas looks to throw the jab but Moca is out of range.

Moca shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in dantas's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Moca wants to stand but dantas has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Moca drops back, looking for a kneebar! dantas looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. dantas looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from dantas!

Moca sneaks out the side door and pushes dantas away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Moca misses with an uppercut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Moca checks a leg kick nicely.

Moca gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Moca pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Moca tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but dantas swivels and escapes.
Moca tries to close the distance and clinch but dantas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

dantas scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The strikes coming from dantas are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
dantas lands a decent elbow from side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
dantas looks up at the clock and then as Moca takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, dantas smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Moca gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Moca actively working from the bottom here.
Moca wants to improve his position but dantas is controlling well.
dantas stops Moca from getting back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

dantas stands up and beckons Moca to join him on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Moca dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Moca tries for a takedown but dantas circles away easily

and dantas counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Moca!
Moca is trying desperately to improve position.
Moca wants to control but dantas is having none of it.
dantas throwing strikes here but Moca is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Moca is in all sorts of trouble here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

dantas with shots to the head and body - Moca looks very uncomfortable down there.
Moca wants to hold on but dantas pushes him away.
Moca is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
dantas controlling from the full mount.
Moca is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
dantas wants to control the pace but Moca is squirming around nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Moca wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Moca bucks dantas off and manages to get back to his feet!
Horrible takedown by dantas or perhaps it was just good defense by Moca which made him look bad.
Moca feints and then cracks dantas's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow dantas down.
dantas stuffs the takedown.

dantas scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Moca is looking to work his way out of this bad position but dantas is controlling him well.

Moca is looking to get back to his feet here but dantas is keeping cool and he's managed to take Moca's back.
dantas has the hooks in. Moca is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
dantas tries to keep control of the position but Moca is staying busy.
dantas might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Moca kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
dantas throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
dantas tries to keep control of the position but Moca is staying busy.
Moca is trying to stand back up.
Moca is covering up but some of the strikes from dantas are getting through and doing damage.
Moca prevents dantas from getting a body triangle.
Moca controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

victo dantas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

and Moca counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Moca advances to half guard.

Moca is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
dantas trying to control but Moca postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Moca looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Moca trying to control from dantas's half guard. dantas has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Moca stands up from dantas's guard - Moca perhaps looking for a knockout.

and Moca holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Moca throws an elbow but it's blocked.
dantas looks to throw an elbow but misses.
dantas takes an elbow to the temple.
Moca leaning against his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Moca breaks the clinch.

Moca moves into the clinch successfully.
The is referee keeping an eye on Moca - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
dantas jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Moca walks away with a smile on his face. dantas gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Frank Moca has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of victo dantas.
Moca works over dantas's head and body with a nice combination.

dantas gets the takedown into side control.
Moca bucks up and tries to throw dantas off but instead dantas has got his back!
dantas is trying to stick to Moca's back but Moca is turning into dantas. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in dantas's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Moca.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now dantas is on top in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Moca looking for submissions from the bottom but instead dantas passes into side control.

dantas working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
dantas is chipping away with strikes.
Moca tries to escape but dantas is in control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
dantas trying to control the action but Moca is working from the bottom.
Moca is looking to regain half guard here but dantas keeps moving and retains side control.

Moca sneaks out the side door and pushes dantas away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
dantas scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Moca clinches up with dantas and pushes him back against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Frank Moca showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Moca has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
