Dolton kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Paradise Warfare. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Scott Dolton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vern Vurris!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shigeki Sano and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vurris gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Vurris wants to stall.
Dolton is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Vurris pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Vurris breaks from the clinch.
Vurris looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Dolton shoots in looking for a takedown. Vurris tries to sprawl out of it but Dolton keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Vurris manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Vurris throws a nice inside leg kick.
Vurris looks to score with a jab to the body but Dolton is just out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dolton doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Dolton takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scott Dolton. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dolton shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Vurris manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Dolton missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dolton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Dolton drops back looking for a leg! Vurris is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Vurris manages to kick Dolton off! Dolton jumps back into Vurris's guard.

Vurris looking for a sweep. Not yet Vurris, not yet.

Vurris escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dolton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Vurris looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dolton is one step ahead there.
Dolton keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Vurris's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vurris looking to control.
Dolton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Vurris avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Dolton postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Vurris pulls Dolton in close to his closed guard and prevents Dolton from doing any damage or advancing position.
Dolton works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Vurris is looking for a sweep. Dolton is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Dolton is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Vurris defends it well.
We've been hearing good reports from Dolton's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Vurris wants to get back to full guard.

Dolton in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Vurris tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Dolton!
