PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ron Funches (ranked 2009 p4p, 2653 weight class) and Jubei Akechi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Funches might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Homosapien. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ron Funches!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 20 - 0, fighting out of London, Jubei Akechi!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Sosuke Kotani.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch lands to the side of Funches 's head but he takes it in his stride.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Akechi has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Akechi lands a nice looking body shot.
Akechi scores with a jab.
Funches takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Funches throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Akechi throws out a powerful jab.
Funches looking to land some kicks to the body here.
It seemed like Akechi was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Akechi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Funches, pushing him back against the cage.

Funches breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Funches looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Akechi fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Funches manages to avoid it.
Funches fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Akechi is out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The fight stays on the outside here - Funches looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Funches takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Funches shoots in for a double leg but Akechi sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Akechi scores with a decent looking hook.

Akechi uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Funches.
Funches dives in and grabs Akechi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Akechi pushes down on Funches's head and hops out.
Akechi takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Funches closes this distance looking for a takedown but Akechi circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ron Funches. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Akechi comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Funches is breathing heavily.
Akechi scores with a crisp jab that stopped Funches in his tracks.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Funches is rocked!
Funches needs to keep his hands up - Akechi had a free shot at his head there.
Oh Funches is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Akechi is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Funches flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Funches is out cold! Akechi holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:09 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jubei Akechi!
