Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Nice sprawl there from Alela as Marlin shoots in. Alela closes the distance and pushes Marlin back into the cage. Marlin is working for takedown but Alela is calmly controlling the position for now. Alela has Marlin pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Alela pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Marlin tumbling to the mat - Alela dives into Marlin's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Alela (2) vs (0) Marlin Alela trying to control but Marlin is working from the bottom. Alela has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Alela preventing the sweep. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alela trying to control the position from guard on top but Marlin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Alela looking to pass the guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Marlin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Alela looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Marlin with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Alela is looking for a sweep. Marlin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. That's two minutes gone in the round. Marlin controlling the pace for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Let's hope that Marlin has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
