This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 1 losses; Muggy Mugshot! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Ron Honeybunn and John Mangel.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Mugshot gets a clinch. Soderlund manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Mugshot drops back, looking for a kneebar! Soderlund looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Soderlund looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Soderlund! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Soderlund (4) vs (0) Mugshot Mugshot can't do much from the bottom here. Soderlund tries to move to mount but Mugshot blocks the move with his legs. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Soderlund in side control, just content to control the action for now. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mugshot is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mugshot tries to hold on but Soderlund pushes him away. Soderlund tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Further stalling from Soderlund.

That's five minutes gone in the round. Mugshot might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Soderlund haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Soderlund takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Soderlund really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Mugshot. Mugshot is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Soderlund gets his hands free as Mugshot looks to control. Soderlund will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Mugshot manages to reverse the position and now he's in Soderlund's guard. Nice work there by Mugshot.
Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Soderlund (9) vs (2) Mugshot Mugshot stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Soderlund swivels though and keeps the full guard. Mugshot has gone for a leg lock! Soderlund slips out almost immediately though and dives into Mugshot's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Soderlund (11) vs (2) Mugshot Soderlund got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mugshot has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Soderlund has managed to get both his arms back between Mugshot's legs - danger averted.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Mugshot has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Soderlund is working away from the top position though. Soderlund stalling.

That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Soderlund seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Mugshot for as long as he can get away with. If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Soderlund is stinking the place up with his stalling. Soderlund continues to stall. More hug and hope from Soderlund. Mugshot tries to hold on but Soderlund postures up.

Soderlund has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Mugshot trying to control the hands but Soderlund won't let him.
And that's the end of the fight! Soderlund takes the fight on points by 17 to 2. A relieved looking Mats Olle Soderlund thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. |
