PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vern Vurris (ranked 4706 p4p, 24406 weight class) and Ding Ding Dong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vern Vurris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 28 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ding Ding Dong!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ding Dong gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling Vurris to counter with a crisp jab.
Ding Dong shoots and misses
and Vurris counters with a thumping low kick.

Vurris moves into the clinch.
Ding Dong can't break the clinch.

Vurris lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Ding Dong has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Vurris is working away from the top position though.
Vurris perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vurris seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ding Dong for as long as he can get away with.

Ding Dong is defending against the submission attempts here by Vurris.

Vurris is trying to work for a kimura but Ding Dong is defending well.
Vurris definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Vurris tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ding Dong knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Vurris connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Vurris moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Ding Dong has worked his arm free - good work by Ding Dong!

Vurris slows the pace down.
Vurris wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ding Dong keeps working.
Ding Dong takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Vurris is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Ding Dong will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Check out the look on Vurris's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Ding Dong gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Vurris cracks Ding Dong with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Vurris takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Ding Dong defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Vurris.
BOOM! Vurris connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Vurris tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Vurris jabs Ding Dong right on the nose. Ding Dong blinks but takes it well.

and Ding Dong takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Ding Dong tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

and Vurris makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

and Vurris counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Vern Vurris has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ding Ding Dong.
Vurris throws a one two combo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Vurris counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Vurris is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ding Dong can do to turn this around?

Vurris closes the distance and clinches.
Ding Dong is breathing heavily.

Vurris breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Ding Dong gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Ding Dong wants to get back to his feet but Vurris passes into half guard.

Vurris looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ding Dong with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Vurris slips a nice elbow through Ding Dong's hands, connecting with Ding Dong's forehead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vurris wants to pass to mount but Ding Dong is defending the position.
Vurris is controlling the pace.
Vurris uses his free foot to push down on Ding Dong's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Ding Dong.

Vurris looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Vurris lands a couple of good shots and Ding Dong has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Vurris is punishing Ding Dong with strikes - can he finish him?!
Vurris trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Ding Dong doesn't escape.

Ding Dong really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vurris. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Vurris has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Vurris lands with an uppercut that bounces Ding Dong off the cage and back into range.
Ding Dong shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Vurris as he jumps to the side.
Vurris fires out a quick counter leg kick but Ding Dong just manages to avoid it.

Vurris has taken the fight to the clinch.
Ding Dong's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Ding Dong wants to break the clinch but can't.

Vurris moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Vurris changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ding Dong looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Vurris content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Vurris lands a nice forearm strike.

Vurris goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Ding Dong rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Vurris's guard! Nice work there by Ding Dong!
Vurris has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Ding Dong drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Vurris manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ding Dong has Vurris in his guard.

Ding Dong takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Vurris engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Vurris sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ding Dong's guard.
Ding Ding Dong has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Vern Vurris showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Vurris has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After winning the bout, Vern Vurris thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
Ding Ding Dong spoke after the fight, saying '"Everybody out there know I beat him, I controlled the fight, he was missing, I hit him plenty more times. I beat him.Let me talk something... I want to thank the whole hood who came out here. I love y'all. I did this for the hood, you know I beat that boy.'.
