Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? A momentary lapse in concentration from Ramirez enables Balkan to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ramirez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Balkan (2) vs (0) Ramirez Ramirez has his hands on Balkan's head, controlling the position. Balkan wants to pass the guard but Ramirez is keeping the position. Ramirez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Balkan sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ramirez's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Balkan is trying to work for a kimura but Ramirez is defending well.
We've been hearing good reports from Balkan's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Ramirez to slip a leg under and get back to full guard. Ramirez looking for a sweep. Not yet Ramirez, not yet. Balkan pushes down on Ramirez's leg and manages to get into half guard.

That's seven minutes gone in the round. Ramirez tries to get to full guard but Balkan has control of the leg. Balkan is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ramirez holds on and takes a little breather. Balkan stays in close to Ramirez's body and controls the position. Balkan is looking to pass into half guard but Ramirez pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Ramirez is in guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Balkan (2) vs (2) Ramirez Ramirez controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Ramirez preventing the sweep.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Balkan is pulling down on Ramirez's head. It's preventing any offense from Ramirez, at least for the moment. Balkan throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Balkan controlling the position. Balkan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Ramirez's corner is telling him to maintain position. Balkan has an active guard here but Ramirez has managed to pass into half guard.
