PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Richard Castillo (ranked 2721 p4p, 2870 weight class) and Boston Lane (ranked 217 p4p, 224 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard Castillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Boston Lane!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Castillo connects with an inside leg kick.
Lane misses with a left hand
letting Castillo counter with a right hand.
Castillo takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Lane is looking to clinch but Castillo is avoiding it.

Castillo clinches up with Lane and pushes him back against the cage.

Lane lands on the inside with an uppercut.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Lane.
Castillo blocks an elbow strike.
Castillo tries for a takedown but Lane manages to get underhooks.
Lane looking to stall.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Castillo creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Castillo blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Lane lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Lane throws a punch but it's blocked by Castillo.

Castillo lands a hook that snaps the head of Lane backwards.

Lane looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Castillo is working for takedown but Lane is calmly controlling the position for now.

Castillo jumps into guard, dragging Lane to the mat.

Castillo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lane's guard.

Castillo wants to control from the top but Lane keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lane is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Castillo pushes down on Lane's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Castillo not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Castillo is keen to just control but Lane is a slippery customer.
Castillo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Castillo thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Castillo working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Lane really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Castillo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Castillo lands with a nice body punch.
Lane just misses with a punch to the body.
As Lane tries to get set, Castillo tries to push him back and clinch up but Lane manages to avoid the attempt.
Castillo shoots in looking for a takedown. Lane tries to sprawl out of it but Castillo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lane manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

It looks like Boston Lane has been cut.
Lane throws a big shot that misses.
Lane tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Castillo counters with a nice uppercut.

Lane misses with a series of wild punches.
Castillo throws the kick towards the body but Lane avoids it.
Boston Lane is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lane tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Lane lands with a straight right. Castillo didn't see that one coming.

Castillo gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Castillo lands a body shot.

Castillo successfully pulls guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Lane moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Lane lands a slapping body shot.
Lane fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Castillo wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Lane cracks Castillo with an open hand slap.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Castillo is defended easily by Lane.
Lane lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Castillo ducks under a wild hook from Lane.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lane throws a hook but Castillo avoids it easily.
Castillo tries to counter with a takedown but Lane is quick to defend against it.
Lane blocks a low kick nicely.

and Castillo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lane fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Castillo looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Lane has closed the distance and engaged Castillo in a clinch.
Castillo scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Lane can't find room to land a body shot as Castillo controls the action.

Lane swings wildly with an uppercut but Castillo uses good head movement to avoid it.
Lane has a couple of punches blocked by Castillo.
Castillo lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Lane backwards.
Castillo blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Lane throws a punch but it's blocked by Castillo.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Castillo gets control of Lane's arms and successfully pulls guard. Castillo will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Lane avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Castillo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Castillo keeping moving, preventing Lane from controlling successfully.
Castillo controls Lane momentarily but Lane frees himself.

Castillo is really struggling to control Lane but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Castillo is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Lane has his hands clasped together but Castillo extends and breaks Lane's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Castillo.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Richard Castillo!
Richard Castillo bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
