And in the blue corner, fighting out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 62 wins and 45 losses; Tres Sulvar!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Daniel Bishop and Donald Grub.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Sulvar fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rodriquez avoids it really well and circles away.
Rodriquez tries to counter with a takedown but Sulvar is quick to defend against it.
Sulvar shoots in looking for a takedown. Rodriquez tries to sprawl out of it but Sulvar keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rodriquez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rodriquez drops down looking for a counter takedown but Sulvar sprawls and moves away.

Rodriquez gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Sulvar is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like Sulvar might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Rodriquez pulls Sulvar in close to prevent any damage.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rodriquez is on top in guard.

Sulvar seems keen to control Rodriquez's posture.
We've been hearing good reports from Rodriquez's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Rodriquez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Sulvar wants to hold on but Rodriquez pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sulvar holds on, trying desperately to control.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Rodriquez.
