PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Barfield (ranked 1205 p4p, 1796 weight class) and Cam Cartwright (ranked 162 p4p, 226 weight class). Cartwright has chosen Karma Chameleon as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Samuel Barfield!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cam Cartwright!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Glass and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barfield tries to close the distance and clinch but Cartwright swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cartwright takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Barfield drives through and clinches with Cartwright against the cage.
Cartwright lands a hook that snaps the head of Barfield backwards.
Cartwright tries to throw a body punch but Barfield avoids it by throwing Cartwright back against the cage.
A body shot lands from Cartwright.
Barfield is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Cartwright lands a hook to the side of the head.
Cartwright lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Barfield gets control of Cartwright's arms and successfully pulls guard. Barfield will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Barfield is trying to control the position but Cartwright postures up.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Barfield is on top in guard.

Barfield throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cartwright works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Barfield slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Barfield is looking to advance position but Cartwright has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Cartwright takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Barfield is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

It looks like Cartwright might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Barfield is trying desperately to improve position.

Barfield is pressing down on Cartwright's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Cartwright wanted to stand there but Barfield had control of the position.
Barfield bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cartwright's guard.

We've been hearing that Barfield has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Cartwright wants to get back to his feet but Barfield is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Barfield in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Barfield throws an elbow that misses. Cartwright uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Barfield's guard. Nice move by Cartwright!

Cartwright is fighting to break Barfield's control of his arms but Barfield is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cartwright avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Cartwright has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Barfield is proving hard to escape from.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Cam Cartwright will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Barfield is squirming around, avoiding Cartwright's attempts to control the action.
Cartwright is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Barfield is trying to escape the mount.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Barfield is looking to get back to full guard here but Cartwright has managed to pass to side control instead.

Barfield tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cartwright wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
