Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Israel Alvarado (ranked 4735 p4p, 4136 weight class) and Johnny Lawrence (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Israel Alvarado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Johnny Lawrence!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarado tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lawrence swivels and escapes.

Lawrence gets caught flat footed, as Alvarado shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Alvarado is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Alvarado seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lawrence escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Alvarado gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alvarado's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Lawrence shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Alvarado as he jumps to the side.
Alvarado shoots in for a takedown but Lawrence shows good takedown defense.

Lawrence clinches.
Alvarado goes for a takedown attempt but Lawrence pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Israel Alvarado. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Alvarado shoots in but Lawrence avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Lawrence is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Alvarado closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lawrence to the mat! Lawrence manages to get full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alvarado stops Lawrence from standing up.
Alvarado slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lawrence is looking to stand up but Alvarado isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lawrence will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Lawrence looks winded!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lawrence can do anything to dispel that myth.

Lawrence is looking for a triangle but Alvarado pushes his legs off easily.
Alvarado controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Israel Alvarado dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Lawrence has Alvarado up against the cage in a clinch.
Alvarado drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Lawrence tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Alvarado just stands there and leans against the cage.
Alvarado is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Lawrence is defending well.

Alvarado decides to pull guard.

Alvarado looking for a guillotine here but Lawrence defends easily.
Alvarado pulls Lawrence in close to his closed guard and prevents Lawrence from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alvarado is looking to cinch up a triangle. Lawrence throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Alvarado's body to avoid the submission. Alvarado has instead reached around Lawrence's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Alvarado arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Israel Alvarado!
Israel Alvarado got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
