This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 5 losses; Jack Phillips! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 2 losses; Jacob Parker! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Ian Loll.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Parker changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Phillips tries to avoid it but Parker manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Phillips to the ground. Phillips escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Parker shoots for a takedown but Phillips saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Phillips throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Parker tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Phillips is in Parker's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Phillips (2) vs (0) Parker Parker working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Phillips doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Phillips manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Parker is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Phillips defends well. Phillips drops back looking for a leg! Parker is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Parker manages to kick Phillips off! Phillips jumps back into Parker's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Phillips drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Phillips jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Parker escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Phillips gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Phillips avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Phillips drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Phillips jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Parker is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
That's one minute gone in the round. Phillips is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Phillips got a little sloppy there for a moment and Parker has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Phillips has managed to get both his arms back between Parker's legs - danger averted. Parker looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Phillips is defending well. Parker quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Phillips has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Parker celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
