And in the blue corner, fighting out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 11 wins and 10 losses; Marquis Chriss!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Josh West.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Shalit drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Shalit just content to control the position.
Shalit's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Chriss had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Shalit defends it easily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Chriss has his foot on Shalit's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shalit works his way back into a safe position though.
Shalit stays in close to Chriss's body and controls the position.

Chriss looking for a guillotine here but Shalit defends easily.
We've been informed that Chriss has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Shalit seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Chriss throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Shalit escapes and throws Chriss's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Chriss is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
We've been hearing good reports from Shalit's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Shalit is trying to stick to Chriss's back but Chriss is turning into Shalit. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Shalit's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Chriss.

Shalit has Chriss pulled in close to control his posture.
Chriss must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Shalit lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Shalit tries to free his leg and advance position but Chriss is retaining full guard.

Shalit working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Chriss is doing well to defend. Shalit seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Chriss is forced to tap and this one is over!
