And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 0 losses; Juan Da Silva! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Paul Tew and Daniel Bishop.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Muir looking to score a takedown here. Da Silva is defending well but Muir drives through and ends up in Da Silva's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Muir (2) vs (0) Da Silva Muir wants to control from the top but Da Silva keeps moving. Da Silva has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Muir is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Da Silva is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Da Silva had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Muir defends it easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Muir looking to sit in guard and control but Da Silva gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Muir (2) vs (2) Da Silva Da Silva sitting in guard, not really doing much.
That's one minute gone in the round. Muir had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Da Silva defends it easily. Muir escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Da Silva gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Muir seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Muir has his foot on Da Silva's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Da Silva works his way back into a safe position though. Da Silva trying to control but Muir is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Muir is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Da Silva is aware though and is defending well. Da Silva sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Muir doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Da Silva paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Muir - great work!
