Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Russ Simons (ranked 1630 p4p, 1911 weight class) and Akamaru Jackson (ranked 201 p4p, 234 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Russ Simons! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 12 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akamaru Jackson! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Eddie Farnsworth and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Simons throws a right and a left that Jackson avoids nicely. Simons throws a nice looking combination but Jackson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Simons looks to land a left hand but Jackson moved out of range nicely. Simons fails to land with a series of punches.
We've been informed that Jackson has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Jackson with a poor takedown and Simons counters with a straight punch to the midsection. A combination from Simons does no damage. Jackson feints the counter takedown. Simons falls off balance throwing a combination
and Jackson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Jackson cracks Simons with a solid left hand. Simons looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jackson is one step ahead there. Jackson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Jackson postures up in Simons's guard and throws a big left but Simons blocks it. Jackson working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Simons's head.
It looks like Russ Simons has been cut. Jackson is looking to advance position but Simons has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Simons avoids the attempt from Jackson to control. Jackson is in all sorts of trouble here.
Jackson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Jackson slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Jackson trying to control but Simons postures up.

Simons is taking a breather. Jackson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. That was a close round but I would say that Russ Simons will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Russ Simons's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Simons tests Jackson's chin there with a solid looking shot. Simons looks to score with a jab to the body but Jackson is just out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Simons misses with a right hand and Jackson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Jackson. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Jackson postures up in Simons's guard and throws a big left but Simons blocks it. That's one minute gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jackson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Jackson throwing strikes but missing. Jackson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Simons swivels though and keeps the full guard. Jackson with a flurry of punches that miss.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Jackson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Simons. Russ Simons is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Jackson misses with a wild combination.

It looks like Akamaru Jackson has been cut. Simons connects with a crisp jab. Jackson with a poor takedown and Simons counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Jackson is rocked! Jackson switches off momentarily and Simons cracks him with a monster right hand! Jackson topples backwards and makes a semi conscious attempt to cover up, as Simons dives in to land one more shot, before the referee has time to call the fight. What a finish by Simons!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Russ Simons! Russ Simons seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
