PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 23877 p4p, 23814 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 36 - 65 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 49 - 52 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Kiang feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Nada has Kiang pulled in close to control his posture. Kiang wants to control from the top but Nada keeps moving. Kiang controlling from the top position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nada pulls Kiang in to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nada working a defensive guard but Kiang passes into half guard.
Nada is positioning himself well to prevent Kiang advancing to mount. Kiang content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Nada keeping hold of Kiang's head, controlling as best he can.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Kiang tries for a takedown but Nada circles away easily and Nada counters with a nice leg kick. Nada changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kiang tries to avoid it but Nada manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kiang to the ground. Kiang escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. It appears Kiang was looking to counter with a kick there. Nada goes for a double leg but Kiang avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kiang continues to drive forward. Kiang throws a quick counter kick to the body but Nada avoids it. Kiang fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nada shoots in looking for a takedown. Kiang tries to sprawl out of it but Nada keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kiang manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Kiang is looking to counter with a body kick. Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada. Nada gets the takedown into side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kiang holding on. Nada is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Kiang's shoulder. That is not cool. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Way Nada will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Kiang closes this distance looking for a takedown but Nada circles away. And Nada responds with a good body kick, but Kiang manages to step out the way in time. Nada shoots in but Kiang avoids the takedown attempt easily. Kiang thinks about countering with a body kick. Nada gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Kiang counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Nada thinking. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Horrible takedown attempt by Nada or perhaps it was just good defense by Kiang, which made it look bad. Kiang thinks about countering with a body kick. Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nada throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kiang's waist but Kiang gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nada off to one side. And Kiang counters with a quick kick to the body but Nada blocks it. Kiang dives in for a single leg takedown but Nada sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Kiang has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Nada is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Nada gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kiang desperately trying to maintain half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kiang is trying to control but can't.
Nada controlling the pace. Nada throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kiang trying to control but Nada postures up.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Nada shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kiang sprawls well. Kiang wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nada gets slowly back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Nada shoots in looking for a takedown. Kiang tries to sprawl out of it but Nada keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kiang manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Way Nada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Kiang's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round! Kiang stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kiang wants it to stay on the feet. Kiang thinks about countering with a body kick. Nada decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Nada trying to control the pace. Kiang has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Nada is working away from the top position though. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nada perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Nada seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Kiang leaves Nada with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Kiang feinted with a counter takedown.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Nada throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kiang's waist but Kiang gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nada off to one side. Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada. Nada avoids a kick to the body.
Kiang looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Nada! Kiang takes a little break here. Nada wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kiang wants to control but Nada is keeping him busy. Nada is trying to control Kiang's posture but Kiang avoids it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Kiang controls the position from side control. Yawa Kiang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Way Nada is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Kiang trying to control the position but Nada is working away.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that's the end of the fight! Yawa Kiang showed his dominance in that final round. I think Nada has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
