This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 4 losses; Sambo Sam!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Micheangelo Fripello.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Sam gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chriss tries to free his leg and advance position but Sam is retaining full guard.
Chriss wants to control from the top but Sam keeps moving.
Sam working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Chriss doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Chriss manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sam is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Chriss is looking to take a break and control but Sam is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sam has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Chriss is working away from the top position though.

Chriss is trying to control. Sam wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Chriss is working for a submission of some sort.
Sam tries to roll over but Chriss keeps him under control.

Chriss can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Sam is looking to escape.
Sam is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Chriss wants to control but Sam has made it back to half guard. Nice work.

Sam is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Chriss pulls his head out easily.

Sam keeping moving, preventing Chriss from controlling successfully.
Our spies down at at 4 inform us that Sam has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Sam looking for a triangle here. Chriss is fighting it but it looks tight! Sam pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Chriss is tapping out - this one is all over!

A very excited looking Sambo Sam rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed. |
