Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marleto Linares!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zhenis Kaliev!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Emerson Jorge and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kaliev throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Kaliev swings for the body but Linares moves out of range.
Linares throws a head kick but Kaliev moves out of range.
Kaliev shoots in and drives through. Linares sprawls well.
Kaliev shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Linares is looking to counter the offense by Kaliev and move into the clinch.
Kaliev tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Linares defends well and Kaliev ends up having to push Linares into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Kaliev has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Marleto Linares has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zhenis Kaliev.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kaliev is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Linares takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Linares is working for a kimura but Kaliev is defending it quite comfortably.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Kaliev is desperately trying to improve his position but Linares has a good base and remains in mount.
Linares lands a couple of good shots and Kaliev has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

You can see the frustration on Kaliev's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Linares lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Kaliev hold on?!

Linares changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kaliev tries to avoid it but Linares manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kaliev to the ground. Kaliev escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Zhenis Kaliev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kaliev dives in and grabs Linares's left leg, looking for a takedown. Linares pushes down on Kaliev's head and hops out.
