Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Burg Gers (ranked 3280 p4p, 3404 weight class) and Diego Carpio (ranked 328 p4p, 344 weight class). Diego Carpio has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Burg Gers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Diego Carpio! The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Daniel Franklin and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gers changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Carpio tries to avoid it but Gers manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Carpio to the ground. Carpio escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Carpio fails in his attempt to clinch. Carpio connects with an inside leg kick. Carpio tries to clinch up but Gers circles away and keeps his distance. Gers slips a jab and a cross from Carpio.
Carpio tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gers paws at him with a jab and circles away. Gers tries to keep at a distance but Carpio has taken the fight into the clinch. Carpio is defending well against a takedown attempt. Gers turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Gers manages to end up in side control. Carpio tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Gers is landing with strikes. Carpio can't take much more of this. Carpio wants to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gers throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch. Gers is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Gers gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Gers gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Gers apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Carpio connects with a solid leg kick. Gers tries for a takedown but Carpio circles away easily and Carpio counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Burg Gers. That's going to take a lot out of him. Carpio tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gers swats him away and circles back towards the center. Gers throws a leg kick but Carpio sees it coming and moves out of range. The fight moves into the clinch position. Carpio tries a knee to the head but Gers blocks it.
Carpio is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Gers is defending well for now. Gers gets a trip takedown into half guard. Gers has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Nice strikes from Gers there. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Gers not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gers not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Carpio tries to kick Gers off but Gers keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gers is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Carpio defends it well. Carpio is looking to escape. Gers looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Carpio really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gers. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gers maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Carpio could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Gers has cracked it and Carpio is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Gers!
