PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sterling Stella (ranked 3027 p4p, 3335 weight class) and Jerethan Treyold (ranked 230 p4p, 253 weight class). Jerethan Treyold told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Treyold moves into the clinch.
Treyold swings wildly with an uppercut but Stella uses good head movement to avoid it.
Stella is looking to take this one to the mat.
Knees in the clinch landing for Treyold.
Treyold is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Stella slowing the pace effectively.

Treyold manages to break the clinch.
Treyold rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Stella moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Stella feinted with a counter takedown.
Stella's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Stella duly obliges.
Treyold connects with a solid leg kick.

Treyold clinches.
Stella avoiding damage as Treyold throws knees to the body.

Treyold breaks from the clinch.

Stella shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Stella showed some decent athleticism there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Treyold pushes Stella off looking to stand but Stella dives back in and keeps control.

Stella tries to pass the half guard into mount. Treyold knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Stella stops Treyold from getting back to his feet.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Treyold wants to improve his position but Stella is controlling well.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Stella throws out a loose jab but Treyold uses good head movement to avoid it.
Stella fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Treyold misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Treyold fails to land with a series of punches.
Stella throws a body shot but no joy.

Treyold swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Stella shoots in and drives through. Treyold sprawls well.

Stella feints and as Treyold raises his hands in defense, Stella changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Stella won't allow Treyold to sweep him here.
Stella tries to stand but Treyold is controlling from the bottom.
Treyold is looking to stand up but Stella isn't so interested in that idea.

Treyold is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Stella postures up.
Stella would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
We've been informed that Treyold has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Treyold misses with a leg kick
and Stella cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Treyold throws the kick towards the body but Stella avoids it.
Stella misses with the combination.
Despite the aggression on Treyold's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Stella looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Treyold misses with a low kick.
Treyold misses with a jab, cross combination.
Treyold pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Treyold throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Stella.
Treyold looks winded!
Treyold looks to throw the jab but Stella is out of range.
Jerethan Treyold is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Treyold misses with a few strikes there.
Stella throws a series of punches but Treyold avoids them all with ease.
Stella rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Treyold moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Stella tries to clinch there but Treyold circles away.

and Stella counters with a shoot takedown. Treyold fights it but they end up in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Stella passes into half guard.
Treyold wants to get back to his feet.
Stella lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jerethan Treyold will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Stella gets a double leg takedown into Treyold's guard.
Treyold is wriggling around but Stella manages to pass to half guard.
Treyold really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stella. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Stella slips a nice elbow through Treyold's hands, connecting with Treyold's forehead.
Stella stops Treyold from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stella wants to get back to his feet.
Stella content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
It looks like Stella is going to stand back up.
Treyold pushes Stella off looking to stand but Stella dives back in and keeps control.

Stella passes to full mount!

Stella is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Treyold is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Treyold flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Stella anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Treyold and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Stella slips an arm under Treyold chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Stella has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Stella is squeezing on Treyold like an anaconda would it's prey. Treyold fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Sterling Stella!
