Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, James Leary! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Kyle Bush! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Francis DeMontford and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Leary keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Leary swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Bush shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Leary counters with a lovely straight right hand! Bush throws a sloppy head kick letting Leary counter with a right hand. Leary digs a good body shot into Bush's ribs. Leary avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kyle Bush seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bush throws a sloppy head kick and Leary moves out of range easily. Bush shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Leary cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. James Leary has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kyle Bush.
That's one minute gone in the round. Leary tries to keep at a distance but Bush has taken the fight into the clinch. Leary tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Leary manages to break the clinch.
Bush is trying hard to land a takedown here. Leary sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Bush doesn't succeed with the takedown and Leary counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Bush gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Leary counters with a straight right hand.
Bush is rocked! Bush misses the body punch and Leary counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Bush is still on wobbly legs! Can Leary finish him? Bush with a poor takedown and Leary counters with a right hand to the body. Bush seems to have recovered his senses. James Leary is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bush misses with a kick to the body and Leary counters with a nice right hand that sends Bush toppling to the canvas! Bush scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Leary finish him?! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bush throws a right hand that misses
and Leary counters with a huge overhand right that connects right on the temple, sending him crumpling, face first to the floor! This one is all over! What a knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:13 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). James Leary! James Leary retains his bantamweight title! James Leary decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
